Description
The Steel Pan (steelpan, steel drum, pans) is a musical instrument that originated in my home country of Trinidad & Tobago. It was originally made from 55 gallon drums that were used to store oil. Music is made by striking the pan with rubber tipped sticks.
In Trinidad the popular place to go before Carnival is the Pan Yard. I grew up living next door to a Pan Yard in the city of San Fernando called Rogues Regiment. At the time it was inconvenient for school studies but because of this experience I am able to portray how the pan man feels when playing this beautiful music. It has been embedded in me and it just comes out in my art and it has become a great attraction to those who view my Steel Pan paintings.
